The Story

01

The Vision

The five Nicklaus children wanted to give their parents something no one had ever given them — their entire family, together, in a single painting. The only obstacle: they weren't together.

Spread across the country and around the world, each branch of the family sent photographs from their own lives — 85 images in all, from entirely different places and moments in time. What you see in the image here is the vision before it became a painting: a family waiting to be gathered.

The Process

Over 85 photographs arrived from across the United States and around the world. Each family member — from the youngest grandchild to Jack and Barbara themselves — captured in separate moments, separate locations.

The artistry lies in weaving these fragments into a single, cohesive scene. Every face, every posture, every relationship carefully composed so the painting feels not assembled, but alive — as if this moment truly happened.

The Reveal

Delivery day is where the painting transcends canvas and paint. When a family sees themselves — all together, across generations — the emotion is immediate and profound.

This is more than art. It's the family they've built, the legacy they share, made tangible and permanent. A painting that will hang for generations, telling their story long after the moment has passed.

The idea for Family Legacy Portraits was born from a simple question: What if a family that could never all be in the same place at the same time could still have a portrait together?

Using dozens — sometimes over a hundred — individual photographs from around the world, each family member is carefully painted into a single, unified scene at a location meaningful to the family. The result is a painting that looks and feels as if the entire family gathered for one perfect moment.

The inaugural commission for the Nicklaus family proved that this concept doesn't just work — it moves people. When a family sees themselves all together, across generations, the emotion is unlike anything else.
